For example St. Anthony’s monastery and St. Paul’s are in the Eastern desert near the Red Sea. The Kilia monastic community is in the Delta. St. Macarius, St. Bishop, Al-Sorian and the Baramus monasteries are all in the western desert of Egypt. St. Menas monastery is near Alexandria (Mariut Desert). Likewise St. Samuel’s monastery is in the Kalamoun desert, St. Apollo’s monastery in Bawit (el Minia), Apa Jeremiah’s monastery in Saqara, St. Shenoute’s monastery (White Monastery) in Sohag, St. Bishay’s monastery (Red Monastery) in Sohag and St. Pachomius’ monastery in Edfu.
